MEET NICK!

So We Meet Again...

Recently, I've been antiquated with an old friend of mine, Nick Carraway. The Great Gatsby, is a classic. It has been awhile since I have read the novel but the narrator of the plot has never left my mind. I've began to read this novel a second time for a class. It it feels so familiar to me. Mostly, the character. The quiet, observing mature of the name quickly came into memory. Now, let me tell you about Nick. This man is very observant. Careful almost. Due, to his father warning him to be careful when criticizing or judging a person. In addition, Nick is trustworthy. Throughout the novel, Nick is told secrets but, never once does he show any interest of sharing them. Not one single hint. But, most importantly Nick is a connector. Nick in the novel seems to serve as the glue to all the characters involved he connects to all of them. Every single one. And seems to at different which each and every one of them. All in all, Nick Carraway is an alluring character which I hope everyone will get to know at some point.

DARK PATTERNS!

The Coldhearted Truth...

My fellow peers we are being fooled! I mean aren’t we always let’s be honest. Anyways, dark patterns has been revealed. In summary, there are patterns used to scam us for several things but mostly money. I began to read an article about these dark patterns which led me to trick questions. Now, we all know what trick questions are. However, the article showed how companies which place two questions of the same context to look contradicting of one another but in fact are the exact same question. It is quite difficult to put in words but it is very interring to see. In terms of my experience, trick questions come into play in my wrestling practices. Typically, the conditioning ones. For example, my coach will ask do you want two run two miles or one mile?  Obviously, the one mile was the best choice. Sadly, it wasn’t. Although, we did in fact run one mile just adding on bleachers two bleachers to be specific. In gist, we must be cautious whenever spending our money and it even investing on time on websites or stores in general.

BEHIND THE IGNITE TALKS!

The Context

As I mentioned before, a couple questions caught my eye. So, I decided to look deeper into them. And by deeper I mean ask their creators why they came up with their question. To start off, goign back to that one question about multiverses: can a multiverse be open as a frequency or energy?  Does this make time travel and guardian angels possible? I asked the person who presented question what made them ask and or even acknowledge this question. she answered that she has always found a deep interest into space and astrology.  From there she came to find the concept of multiverses and hence came the theories of time travel and guardian angels. Now, she attempted to explain the “basics” to me but, I simply could not keep up. Moving in to my next investigation, looking back at the question about knowing how to choose our careers. The student simply told me that schools and or adults just assume us students and or youth know what we want to do with our lives. And I mean he is not wrong we are usually expected to follow the paths of the older generations. All in all, the questions asked about yesterday we created upon deep interest and personal opinions and or experiences.

I'M IGNITED!

Into our Minds

Today, in class we began to explore one of long term assignments. We were asked to come up with a big question in which we will research then, teach to our fellow peers. Sadly, I missed out of the opportunity to hear my peers questions live. But, I will settle for the on screen version. Anyways, here I am looking through the list of questions and three caught y attention. The first one was is it real life or a hallucination? This made me really think about my life and all my life choices and events. This question threw me off but,in a good way. The second question was how do we know what career to choose? This is sort of related to my big question hence I took interest in it. Finally, the last question was can a multiverse be open as a frequency or energy?  Does this make time travel and guardian angels a real possibility?I have o idea what this question is asking but, I'm interested to learn about it so I can understand the concepts of the question. All in all, people have brilliant minds and we can see this from the questions asked above.

Intro Speech Draft

Practice Makes Perfect.

We all are our own person. But, yet in schools we treated as a one whole. Everyone learns the same material. Now, whether you excel or not determines your future. Like Einstein said everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree. It will live its whole life thinking its stupid. Many students today relate to that fish believing they are stupid, useless, and incapable. In this country we tolerate murder and abuse. To be more specific. The killing of individuality. The killing of creativity. And intellectual abuse. For years, we have let modern day schooling commit these crimes. Kurt Cobain once said, The duty of the youth is to challenge corruption. Therefore, I am here to find out why have we not modernized the school system? Why are students under the obligation to study all subjects even if they are irrelevant to their desired profession and or interests?

HOPEPUNK!

New Addition to the Family!

It is highly said that we learn something new everyday. And whoever said that was right. Today I did some research on a new genre called hopepunk. In gist, the genre consists of a mood of fighting back and or to never give in.Almost like a protest in writing. It is highly inspirational. I feel the authors/people who are aware of hopepunk find it significant in today's world because of all the political/social uprisings in the world today. There are several controversies we are arguing over like climate change, the current president, ect... Hopepunk allows these subjects to be talked about and heard. Therefore, it is significant.

LAST CENTURY'S WRITING STYLES!

Good OL' Days

Notes:
  • Genre→Is made up
  • Naturalism: Made the protagonist a victim of forces greater than one's self (exaggerated forces)
  • Realism: About keeping it real don't making seem grander or more difficult than it was
  • Modernism: Knew the old ways were not the best / "Break the rules"→wrote their own/new rules  Ex: New Words, Fragments
  • Liminal= Not quite what ewe used but not quite yet of what we are going to become

ARGUE THIS!

Convince.

Notes:
  • Syllogism: Simplest form of logical argument
  • Three Parts: (1) Major Premise (2)Minor Premise (3) Therefore, Conclusion
  • TRUTH
  • VALIDITY
  • Truth= factually verified
  • Does the conclusion follow from the premises?
  • Syllogism= Example of deductive reasoning
In today's world, the school systems today is always frowned upon by students. High school students today dread their drive or walk to school. Many people connected with this hatred to school to anxiety, "learning disabilities" , or are even told they are not "smart enough". But, looking deeper we all do not excel in all subjects in schools. We all have our strength and weaknesses. It is always advertised that we are all unique and different. Therefore, I beg to find out why are high school students under the obligation to study all subjects even if they are irrelevant to their desired major/Profession?

DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE!

Looking Back...

Here we go again. Another article read. To my surprise this one was quite interesting if I do say so myself. John Steinbeck's article, John Steinbeck on Good and Evil, the Necessary Contradictions of the Human Nature, and Our Grounds for Lucid Hope, is full of deep textual writing with numerous links. And I kid you not there are a lot of links! After I finished reading the article my curiosity got the best of me and I decided to look through the links again. First I clicked on the called, our grounds for hope in the dark, the emotional appeal this link gave was simply intriguing to me while in this link I found my self clicking on another link. It was called, how we find ourselves getting lost. That link taught me a lot. But, the most important thing I learned was there are two meanings to the word lost. One we lose things or possessions like people or even just a house key. However, the other definition is the knowledge of the world is beyond our grasp. In other words, we lost control. That hit me to the core. I ended my journey reading there.

NOTES FROM TODAY'S LECTURE!

Breaking it Down...

  • Logical fallacy: an error in reasoning that renders an argument invalid.
  •  Diction and Syntax=poetic words
  •  Logos (logical reasoning of an argument) -allusions to Lincoln and Shakespeare "summer of our discontent" Shakespearean quote (allusion to Steinbeck) shows that MLK was well aware of literature and the origins
  •  Theme=of speech had to do with the idea that our society is based on a constitution and a lot of rules written on paper (based on religious ethic etc.) yet America hasn't been clearly portraying the famous quote "Everyone is created equally."
  •   Ethos (author's credibility) -MLK was a man of color so he's faced ridicule and suffering -He was a church leader and a man of God which gave him credibility to speaking in front of an audience with credible biblical references
  • Pathos (emotional connection/passion of an argument) -the screams and the shouts of the audience showed how touching MLK's speech was to them

TODAY I INTERVIEWED AN EXPERT!

An Experience!

Interview Notes:
  • If you have a weird idea →Famous (Before) vs. Weird Idea →Businesses/Companies → famous maybe...(Now)
  • The change that we see in technology is not technology itself  it is the global thing that companies/businesses erupt
  • James Boyle → the environment movement is a great example of how change can be made →Therefore there is hope that if we care enough about any subject at all we can change this world for the better
  • Pluralism: Power is in the hands of many people
  • Money spent by school =More spent on censorship on computers rather than beneficial things like sport programs, textbooks, etc.
  • THE POWER LIES WITHIN BUSINESSES!!
Today, I was lucky enough to interview, Cory Doctorow, a man I didn't know much about to be quite honest. Now, for those who don't know Cory is a technology activist which is someone who brings to light the changes needed within the infrastructure of technology, while also being a science fiction writer, writing things from novels to picture books. During,  the interview I felt numerous emotions/ thoughts. I feared that I wouldn't be able to keep up with the conversation as he is an intellectual but even if I couldn't understand some things I walked away with a better understanding but more importantly a new experience. Like, I learned and or realized businesses/corporations hold the power to the world. All in all, this interview helped me open my eyes to soceity.
